Hi,
I am not a Christian (actually I do not follow any religion despite being born into a Hindu household).
However, I doubt Kate (or any Christian woman) has to wear the veil everytime she goes out in public, unlike the veil that you connect with Muslim women. Perhaps there is no other religion apart from Islam which insists on the veil being a permament fixture on women.
In addition, your argument is defeated in the literal sense because you mention that Kate's father is giving her away to Harry, when it was William who was marrying her. Again, this shows that your email was probably a knee jerk reaction to all the media attention that the wedding was getting, and that you couldn't care less what the facts were as long as there was some apparent hypocrisy going on in western societies. When clearly there was none in this instance. Your "expertise" as a journalist should have prompted you to at least give a second reading to your email before sending it off.
In fact, I will stick my neck out with this one and say that your arguments are just your own reaction to the fact that for decades now, societies have complained against several proven incidents of women abuse in Islamic cultures. And so, you chose to hang on to any thread of apparent hypocrisy.
But to refute your argument about "women as property", women are by and large free to marry any person they chose in most cultures. I will not say that I have full knowledge of weddings of any religion/culture but the Christian act of the father giving away the bride to the groom is more likely to be a form of blessing given by elders who have raised their children and are now happy to see them start a new family and carry on the values of good parenting.
I distance myself from religiously motivated abuse of women, which happens in Hinduism as well - I am not a hypocrite, but you also need to realise this perhaps.
regards
Bibhash

The Royal Wedding
A Muslim woman is oppressed when she wears the veil, what about a Christian woman? Is Kate not oppressed for wearing a veil?! and is her value not diminished by her father giving her away to Harry as if she was some property!
