For the last many days experts on the topic were talking about bio attack on Lahore but Pak media which is free but corrupt and is notorious for receiving millions of dollars from certain quaretrs to promote their intrest , neglected this sentiment for almost one month. Once a TV channel has come out with expert opinion but other prime channels are maintaining a criminal silence. Print media which is also owned mostly by the owners of these TV channels is also not updating the masses. Now , the only option left for reaching the people is blogs. All Pakistan loving people must spread this word so that government comes under pressure to verify and declare the fact.

Murdered NBP employee who irked corrupt also named others as targets

ISLAMABAD: Shabbir Abbasi — an ex-employee of the National Bank of Pakistan

(NBP) and the man behind three major petitions filed in the Supreme Court

against corruption of the top NBP management, who was murdered on Sunday — had

forewarned about life threats to himself and four other people, including The

News correspondent Usman Manzoor.

Shabbir had informed his close associates before his murder that the top NBP

management has planned to kill him along with The News correspondent Usman

Manzoor and Farrukh Ihsan Chaudhry of a local newspaper and one Jamshaid Mir of

NBP. Shabbir was shot in the jurisdiction of Gulshan-e-Ravi Police Station

Lahore on Sunday in cold blood, which has created a serious security threat for

the others named by the deceased days before his death.

The News correspondent Usman Manzoor has been filing stories on corruption and

corrupt practices in different government departments including the NBP. Usman

filed many stories during the past months against corruption in NBP mainly based

on the petitions filed in the Supreme Court and the documents submitted in the

apex court by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

These stories also include the petitions that challenged the appointment of the

former and the present president. A story, based on State bank of Pakistan's

inspection report, was also filed highlighting that NBP issued

exemptions/waivers/deferrals amounting to Rs118.554 billion. Some of these

stories also highlighted how NBP doled out loans worth Rs28.6 billion under

Special Mention category to the high and mighty. Yet another story based on the

petition filed by the deceased Shabbir Hussain Abbasi in the SC about

misappropriation of $53.5 million (Rs4.54 billion) in Core Banking Solution for

NBP was also filed in August this year.

Usman also filed many stories regarding misappropriation of more than Rs2

billion by the top NBP management in the name of `cash achievement awards',

which were obtained by the top brass of NBP itself by manipulating the rules and

throwing into the dustbin the regulations of the State Bank of Pakistan. A

report of FIA submitted in the SC confirming the fraud worth Rs2 billion in the

Workers' Welfare Fund, was also filed by The News correspondent.

Another story on hundreds of officers of the bank approaching the Supreme Court

against the discrimination meted out to them as a parallel service structure is

being run and people working on the same scale and doing the same work on same

posts are being treated differently was also filed a few months ago.

Kashif Anwer, a close associate of deceased Shabbir Hussain Abbasi, has

submitted an application in the Gulshan Ravi Police Station Lahore, received by

the Deputy Superintendent of Police, which says that an ex-employee of NBP was

murdered on Sunday in Lahore by unknown people.

`He was the main petitioner in the following cases against NBP: Rs2 billion

Worker Welfare Fund scam case being heard by the Chief Justice of Pakistan; he

challenged the appointment of the president NBP, the group chief HR and the

petition also highlighted the names of big loan defaulters who again managed to

obtain loans from NBP and the third petition was against Core Banking Solution,

a failed project that cost the bank Rs4.5 billion', the application says.

Kashif Anwer in his application has also mentioned that Shabbir was facing death

threats and had told his lawyer Hashmat Habib Advocate on 29-09-2011 that his

life was in danger. Moreover, Kashif wrote in the application that Shabbir had

told him that there was a grave threat to the lives of The News reporter Usman

Manzoor, one Syed Jahangir of NBP, Furrukh and Ehsan Chaudhry who work for a

local newspaper and of Jamsheed Mir of NBP.

It is worth mentioning here that journalists are facing threats for reporting

corruption and wrongdoings of the government departments and agencies. Recently,

The News correspondent Umar Cheema was abducted and subjected to torture for

exposing the inside stories and incompetence of some organisations.

Brave Geo News reporter Wali Khan Babar was killed mercilessly in Karachi on

January 13, 2011 and federal and provincial governments are still unable to

arrest the his killers. Senior journalist Salim Shehzad was also killed because

of his hard hitting and investigative stories.

Neither the government nor the institution allegedly involved in these incidents

took any concrete step to stop the practice of controlling the media by use of

force or by torturing or killing the journalists.

Energy riots a wakeup call

Energy master plan covering Iran gas, Thar coal imperative

Energy crisis shouldn't be allowed to become humanitarian crisis

Islamabad: [Oct 05]

The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Wednesday said energy crisis, which has sparked protests and riots, has potential to become humanitarian crisis and result in a mass movement therefore it should serve as a wakeup call.

Such a situation would create serious problems that will further deteriorate economy and cause social problems, it said.

Implications of an energy crisis are large, because energy is the resource used to exploit all other resources, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President of the Pakistan Economy Watch.

Electricity shortage is felt most by majority who depend on it for business and domestic use.  In these circumstances, a sustained energy crisis may become a humanitarian crisis, he said.

Masses are business community are no more ready to buy the idea that past rulers are responsible for the mess, he added.

He said that the time has come to make a master plan encompassing Thar coal, Iran gas pipeline and hydel resources as stress on rental power has only contributed to allegations.

He said that inefficiency in power generation and distribution companies is an open secret which should me hammered out at earliest.

Dr. Murtaza Mughal lauded the efforts of the government to overcome energy crisis but also stressed well-planned steps.

Rulers are less concerned about economic stability otherwise, there would have been no complaints of brain drain, flight of capital and relocation of industries, he observed.

IWCCI asked to open new frontiers for women entrepreneurs

Leaders should empower women, discharge responsibilities in befitting manner

Dated: October 05

Islamabad: Samina Fazil, founder President, Islamabad Women's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IWCCI) on Wednesday called upon the newly elected president and other office bearers to serve the community by opening new frontiers of opportunities.

You have appeared on the scene recently and it is your duty to provide training and other opportunities to women entrepreneurs, she said. I hope that you will work with a missionary zeal and discharge your responsibility in best possible way.

Samina told them that your mission is to groom women leaders for a progressive Pakistan so that we can attain economic solvency and freedom from all the fears.

A women's chamber that cannot provide research and development opportunity, empower women professionally, help create job opportunities, help women to set up their own business, promote business, and build capacity should simply not exist, she underlined.

Trade and industrial growth and infrastructure development should also be among the objectives of the trade body, she added.

The founder president of IWCCI said that women entrepreneurs should enable themselves to exploit their business potentials through accessing the services offered by different government and private sector organisations.

Samina advised them not to confine the membership of the body but to expand its membership base in every direction.

The chamber, in the long run, should also focus on research activities to look into new and fresh ideas so that the women entrepreneurs can begin establishing innovative businesses, she added.

Samina said that you have to prove your metal in these difficult times.

At the occasion the recently elected President IWCCI Alia Akram and Vice President Naima Ansari said that they would try best to serve the community and try to reduce

discrimination against women.

Alia said that the contribution made by women entrepreneurs is expected to exert significant influence in shaping a new business model in the country.

We will continue to create economic and leadership opportunities for women, she vowed.

Executive Committee members Mumtaz Akhtar, Sajida Anwar, Munazza Arif, Shereen Jaweed, Samina Akhtar, Farida Rashid, Shamim Aftab and others were also present on the occasion.

They said that they would be pleased to serve under the directions of experienced leaders of IWCCI to get positive results.
