Feets of Clay – The CJ, The Supreme Court, Arsalan and Malik Riaz……all stand unrobed in this "Animal Farm"

Like most people, I also fell under the spell that the CJ and his team (cronies some would call them) is the last "bastion" of a free and honest Pakistan, as we did when that other joker, Pervez Musharraf took over and we all thought…ahhh our savior at last…….and now with every Tom, Dick, Harry, Haider, and Shakeel coming to the CJ and the "judiciary's  defense…..and heavens  would fall if anyone even dared question his integrity or his actions.

 Well frankly speaking I don't care a fig for these Tom's Dick's Harry's, Haider's and Shakeel's. 

 The CJ and the two judges who passed judgment in the Arsalan case came out smelling bad…real bad…a smell that reeks of nepotism, favoritism, and high stakes punt…so here are a couple of stupid thoughts which crossed my mind..

 1.       Arsalan was a third rate student and clearly a third rate person, and thanks to his father admitted into a medical college, then again, thanks to his father inducted into the police force, then again thanks to his father, inducted into the FIA and ……

a.       deduction number one……a rotten apple doesn't fall far from the tree which bore it

 

2.       How on earth could a person, like the CJ with the kind of "super nose" for corruption, wrong doing and  "super eyes" to see all that is wrong in this Holy land, fail to see the rapid rise of his son, his wealth, his doings and all that.  It insults ones intelligence that a person as well tuned as the CJ about what's happening in Pakistan did not know what his son was up to …..that little twit had his charo ungleea ghee may or sir karahi may…..while, as the CJ's supporters say, poor dad was working 18 hours a day saving the nation and didn't have time to see what his son what upto.…..what a load of bull……tell that to my cat. He knew and he looked away

a.       ….deduction number 2…the CJ knew….turned a deliberate blind eye perhaps for biological reasons and not financial gain I will admit..but he Sir is Guilty as anybody for acts of omission in not reining in this despicable character who is his son….

 

3.       Why would the two person judge hand over investigation to the Government, knowing fully well that the other party, Malik Riaz, is "the government" so wink wink, if you investigate my dear Mr. AG your man gets cooked with my son…so do what you know best….deduction number three….a high risk gambit…likely to succeed…as no real investigation will be forthcoming…hope I'm wrong…one would have expected a no nonsense enquiry commission comprised of retired judges of impeccable character to investigate with the same vengeance as other issues, since the entire fabric of the Superior Judiciary has been tainted….but no…they pussy foot and "hand over the case" to the government to take whatever steps necessary…..and being hailed as amongst the greatest judicial judgments since God knows when.

 As you all know I own no houses ( not even one) no plots (not one) no bank balances (my bankers pray for me) and run a small business consultancy here in the UAE.  I hate the PPP, I have never met Malik Riaz, but I think the man has some guts, even though he is a crook.  I am not  social reformer nor a political activist…but I do hate blatant hypocrisy, (small hypocrisy we all have and I am guilty of it as well) but coming especially from people who pretend to be public defenders, with feets of clay and use their trust to cheat a society and use it to serve their own interests.  Malik Riaz is a crook, and right at the top of the totem pole, but he does what every businessperson in Pakistan does, bribe and buy his way to success…why should this surprise anybody…most of us know how many of our friends, family and colleagues are bought and sold ever yday and or buy and sell "values, ethics, principles and morality" everyday for the sake of our business and vested interests.  

But The CJ is another case altogether….he and his institution has the trust and faith of this hapless people and miserable society who hope and pray for a Messiah to somehow get us out of this mess..and many still see him as that Messiah… 

…BUT when his son comes along merrily, wining, merrymaking, seeking and getting largesse from the likes of Malik Riaz, allegedly for a favorable verdict, and as the proverbial mess hits the fan…..look what the CJ does…..tucks his tail and walks away and leasves it to his two fellow judges to clean up the mess…very adroitly.  

I hope I'm wrong for the sake of Pakistan and its poor miserable exploited wretched masses…but I think it's a very very sad day and another illusion bites the dust…….. 

Saeed Qureshi on Hussain Nisar TAKING MONEY FROM BAHRIA ( I DON'T KNOW EITHER GENTLEMAN)

 This is an unfair comment by Saeed saheb. The list is obviously cooked up.  Bahria account details, Bank branch, bank name, date, swift code and dates mean nothing.  These details have been placed merely to make it "look" official.

Here's an example how it can be cooked up with Saeed saheb's name, with apologies, not that he took the money and the plot but just to illustrate how easily this can be done. I have added the date to make it look even more "real"

What would have lent some credence to the allegation was if the recipients account number, bank and branch had been also mentioned, in the above example Saeed Qureshi's account number, bank and branch or any other recipient who is on that list.  Then a forensic investigation of the recipient's account ( Saeed Qureshi's) done to establish that money was transferred from Bahria to him or Hassan Nisar or anybody else on that list and then investigated to ensure that it was a legal or illegal transfer etc. it is then that one can state a perspective that there was / is something "fishy".

 

I don't know Hassan Nisar at all.  Personally I don't like his style and think that he is arrogant, pompous and full of himself – BUT that doesn't mean that he is a crook.  And I don't think he is.

 

It seems highly unlikely that anyone as intelligent as Hassan Nisar or Saeed saheb, himself, would be so asininely stupid to accept as a bribe, a wire transfer from a Bahria Account directly into his own in full public view.  Saeed saheb doesn't know the shenanigans of people who take illegal gratification, and frankly and thank GOD neither do I,  but they would certainly not do so full public view where even a novice can trace the transaction.

 

Saeed saheb has made a grave error of pre-judgement and coming from him is extremely disappointing. Till the evidence comes forth we need to hold our horses, judgment and not play judge, jury, investigator and executioner.

 

Not expected such a diatribe from Saeed saheb.

Islamabad – Tuesday, 19 June 2012:  A Senior Officials Meeting of the Triangular Initiative hosted by the Government of Pakistan and supported by UNODC Pakistan was held between the Islamic Republics of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan in Islamabad today. Mr. Javed Iqbal, Secretary – Narcotics Control Division, Government of Pakistan, Major General Malik Zafar Iqbal – Director General Anti Narcotics Force and Mr. Jeremy Douglas – Representative UNODC Country Office Pakistan co-chaired the meeting.

Attended by officials and heads of anti narcotics, border control and criminal justice agencies in the three countries, the participants discussed drug trafficking and law enforcement challenges faced by the three states and reiterated their commitments to strengthen regional cooperation. The heads of the forces of the three countries expressed hope that this cooperation between the three countries will continue to grow under the Triangular Initiative. The three delegations discussed and agreed on methods to promote regional cooperation even further, in order to synergize efforts against the menace of trafficking and attainment of common objectives.

UNODC estimates that Afghanistan produces over 90% of the worlds opiates, with most trafficked directly through neighbouring countries to the region and international markets. The three countries are actively involved in furthering cooperation through mechanisms including establishment of a Joint Planning Cell for sharing real-time information and planning simultaneous interdiction operations, Border Liaison Offices on the common border to promote inter-agency cooperation, cross-border collaboration and real-time communication through various advanced means of communication. The three states also agreed to explore various new cooperation mechanisms under the Triangular Initiative.

Federal Board of Revenue is pleased to extend the date for filing of Sales Tax/Federal Excise Return and payment of Taxes/Duty thereon up to 25th June, 2012, for the tax period May, 2012, for all registered persons.

The decision has been taken by the FBR in exercise of the powers conferred under section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 and section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005.

PDMA-KP establishes Provincial Emergency Operations Centre at Peshawar

Peshawar, 18 June, 2012: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PDMA-KP, inaugurated the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (PEOC) at PDMA Peshawar. 

 

The inauguration ceremony was co-chaired by Mr Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, Chief Minister KP and Mr. Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Pakistan. Mr. Douglas Hageman, Deputy Country Director UNDP and Mr. Shahzad Khan Bangash, DG, PDMA-KP were also present on the occasion.

 

The PEOC contains state-of-the-art communications tools and latest equipment including data storage to support early warning systems and enhance information management capacities in case of a disaster. The emergency centre would also ensure smooth flow of information between provinces and affected districts from the bottom-up before, during, and after a disaster.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Hoti said, “contingency plan has been worked out  and wishful objectives can be achieved through  effective implementation on it.”

 

Ambassador Wigemark underlined the importance of the PEOCs. “The Centre inaugurated today will address risks associated in flood prone areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, enhancing flood preparedness and response mechanisms. Line agencies should ensure its maintenance and there are clear benefits for the local communities in areas often affected by natural calamities. The EU support to the PEOC is part of an overall contribution of Euro 15 million from the European Union to restore the capacities of government institutions and communities in the flood affected areas.”

 

UNDP Pakistan is collaborating with PDMA for the establishment of PEOCs across Pakistan with funding from the EU and the Government of Japan. Earlier, PEOCs in Punjab and Balochistan were setup. The PEOCs in Sindh, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan will also be launched soon.

 

Mr. Hageman appreciated the involvement of the PDMA and said, “The control room will serve as a hub of information collection and dissemination both during disasters and on a regular basis as well. Keeping in view the upcoming monsoons, the role of the control rooms in overall multi-sectoral coordination services cannot be understated.”

The new Indian army chief General Bikram Singh during his two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir has asked troops to respect human rights and uphold law of land. According to defence spokesman General Singh visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) and while interacting with officers and troops, he stressed upon the secular and apolitical ethos of the Indian Army. General Singh's advice to troops to respect human rights and uphold law of land and his stress upon the secular and apolitical ethos of the Indian Army makes him an enlightened soldier. It does not however, reflect the full and higher discipline of duties that the Indian army has taken upon to discharge in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

It was on the morning of Wednesday 27 March 1996 that World Society of Victimology – WSV (Germany) and Jammu and Kashmir Council for Human Rights – JKCHR (United Kingdom), informed the delegates at the UN that the dead body of Jaleel Andrabi a Kashmiri lawyer who had attended the 47th Session of UN Sub Commission, On Prevention Of Discrimination And Protection Of Minorities, last year (1995) was found floating in the river Jhelum, near Raj Bagh - early that morning. He was arrested on the evening of 9 March 1996, while travelling with his family.

 

World Society of Victimology (WSV) and  Jammu and Kashmir Council for Human Rights – (JKCHR) organised a Meeting, on Monday 1st April, from 4pm to 6pm, at Palais des Nations in Geneva, in Memory of the Human Rights activist, killed in custody. The author (as permanent representative of WSV to the UN) had hosted a dinner to Jaleel Andrabi and other Kashmiri delegates who were attending the 47th Session of UN Sub Commission, On Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities in 1995.

 

The alleged involvement of Major Avtar Singh in Jaleel Andrabi's custodial killing would remain a mystery. Avtar Singh has killed himself and his family. He has left behind a big question, when he told his immigration consultant for his asylum application in USA, that he did not kill Kashmiri activist Jaleel Andrabi, but knew who did. "I am being made a scapegoat," he said, adding that he would be killed if he returned to India. The latest revelation should cause a serious concern to us who defend the human rights in general and to the institution of army in particular.

 

As a start it should be made very clear that Jammu and Kashmir is not like any other State of India and the Indian army here has a special and defined role. Governor General of India on 27 October 1947 took action "to send troops of the Indian army to Kashmir to help Kashmiri forces to defend the territory and to protect the lives, property and honour of Kashmiri people". It is therefore a supplement to the Kashmir forces and remains subordinate to the State administration. The provisional agreement of the State of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India is consequent upon these duties of the Indian army and vice versa.

 

On 5 February 1948 at the 241st Meeting of the UN Security Council, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah as part of the Indian delegation in his address on the question of Indian army stated that "The Prime Minister of India long ago declared that the Government of India has no intention of keeping its army permanently stationed in Kashmir. He stated, "We are there only as long as the country is in turmoil. Once law and order are established, once the marauders and the tribesmen leave the country we will withdraw our army". That pledge is already there."

 

In regard to the Pakistani objections on the role and influence of Indian army in Kashmir Sheikh further submitted that, "There need be no fear, since the Indian army is there, that this army will interfere in the exercise of a free vote. After all, a commission of the Security Council will be there in order to watch. The Indian army does not have to go into every village. It will be stationed at certain strategic points, so that in the event of danger from any border, the army will be there to protect that border. The army is there to curb disorders anywhere in the State; that is all. The army will not be in each and every village in order to watch each and every vote." (UN SC official record Nos. 16-35, 5 February–2 March 1948).

 

India as a member nation of UN has submitted itself to an international discipline for its armies in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a strict discipline in regard to the behaviour, number, and location of Indian troops in Kashmir. Under UN SC Resolution S/726 of 21 April 1948 Indian forces in Kashmir are subject to the following three principles:

 

(i)                 That the presence of troops should not afford any intimidation or appearance of intimidation to the inhabitants of the State

(ii)               That as small a number as possible should be retained in forward areas

(iii)             That any reserve of troops which may be included in the total strength should be located within their present base area.

Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah addressing the same UN SC meeting made an important point and every Indian and Pakistani should stop to examine the substantive merits of this point. He stated that "It is said that Sheikh Abdullah is a friend of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Yes, I admit that. I feel honoured that such a great man claims me as his friend. And he happens to belong to my own country; he is also a Kashmiri and blood is thicker than water. If Jawaharlal gives me that honour, I cannot help it. He is my friend. But that does not mean that, because of his friendship, I am going to betray the millions of my people who have suffered along with me for the last seventeen years and sacrifice the interests of my country. I am not a man of that calibre."

 

Indian army chief has to be fully knowledgeable to look beyond the duties of his troops to respect human rights, uphold law and honour the secular and apolitical ethos of the Indian Army. These other duties are clearly stipulated by the Governor General of India in the purpose of sending Indian troops to Kashmir, their role is fully explained by the Prime Minister of India, explained and defended by Sheikh  Abdullah at the UN Security Council and finally inscribed in  the UN Security Council Resolution of 21 April 1948.

 

In fact Indian troops have a significant role to play to support peace in Kashmir and in promoting the process during which the people of the State are able to exercise the freedom of their choice. Indian army would not be able to discharge its higher and defined burden of responsibilities, if it is not educated in the jurisprudence of the Kashmir dispute, distribution of the people, three administrations, State Subject rule and the full volume of other described roles. General Singh, his officers and soldiers in Kashmir need to know that even Noel Baker United Kingdom representative to the UN Security Council during the same meeting observed that "One of my friends wrote a book in which he said that Kashmir was so lovely a

Country that no lifetime was long enough to absorb the wonder of it."

 

If for Noel Baker and his friend, 'no lifetime was long enough to absorb the wonder of Kashmir', how would it be possible for General Singh to absorb the wonder of Kashmir in two days and educate in one interaction his troops to discharge the full and higher discipline of duties that the Indian army has taken upon to discharge in Jammu and Kashmir. He needs to take urgent, continued and exceptional steps to be able to serve on these two counts. General needs to spend more time for absorbing the wonder of Kashmir and for educating his troops.

Et tu, Hassan Nisar?

If Hassan Nisar is also one of the recipients of the graft money from Malik Riaz, the Pakistan's billionaire property tycoon: then it definitely betokens the demise of fair journalism in Pakistan. His name is there  in the list with the soul-dampening information  that, " he received 1 Crore and 10 Lakhs Rupees: Money transferred from Account Title Bahria Town (Pvt) Limited, Account Number42279-2 at Habib Bank Limited, LDA Plaza Branch, Lahore, Code 1315, SWIFT: HABBPKKAX315 10 Marla Plot in Bahria Town.
In the TV Talk appearances as a guest or as a host in his own popular program "Choraha", or in his Jang columns, he unleashes an avalanche of blistering censure against the corrupt individuals and agencies in Pakistan. He is adored and acknowledged as one among the whole crowd of journalists for scathing views and tongue lashing against a whole range of corruption, greed, moral degeneration and a failed system of governance. He is the most aggressive and unsparing critic of the incumbent government and the power wielders and their sleazy exploits in self-aggrandizement and money grabbing.
His defiant rhetoric did not spare the army generals, the bureaucrats, the highly placed government functionaries and exploitative business magnates and classes for plundering Pakistan at the cost of the peoples' burgeoning woes. But all of a sudden , his image looks so besmirched and hollow that one tends to believe as if his assertion of moral principles and manifestation of pious platitudes was a mere charade that has been lifted in such a freakish fashion. 
It's hard to believe that he has been erroneously implicated in this scam as all the particulars are self-explanatory. It appears utterly improbable for him to get absolved from the calumny that has demolished his thus far adorable public profile of all these years. The building of a reputation comes in stages, by hard work and over a prolonged period of test and trials. But it can be washed off instantaneously and one stands tarnished by the surreptitious and sudden developments as the one we are witnessing now. One stands exposed in a jiffy no matter how cleverly he masks his real intentions or covers up behind- the-door activities by thick blankets of subterfuge and ruse.
The fundamental question stands out that why this former Bahria Town boss was squandering big chunks of money on a bunch of leading and most prominent journalist whose programs are watched both in and outside Pakistan by countless people. Understandably it was to purchase their loyalties in favor of the exploitative groups, lobbies and individuals whose front man is Malik Riaz. The charge could be credible that the perks and grafts given to Arsalan Iftikhar was aimed at silencing or blackmailing the chief justice  for going soft on the gubernatorial cases pending against the powerful persons.
This projection could be plausible when seen in the light of a highly uncalled and offensive comment made by Luqman Mubashar, a shrewish anchor of the Dunya TV channel. In one of his programs in which a stalwart of MQM and Fauzia Wahab were guests, he demanded in a louder pitch to hang the chief justice. He was egregiously disrespectful and it was evident that he was communicating his odious marks to some one somewhere. Otherwise a minimum modicum of decency and decorum is normally observed   in television programs, all the more about the head of Supreme Court who should command respect if not total support.
That was most distasteful demeanor of this anchor who became boorish as to leave the basic norms of a normal human being. Fauzia Wahab despite being a prominent member of the PPP and averse to chief justice did not agree with his vicious and scornful outburst. The rabid nexus between Luqman, Mehar Bukhari, Malik Riaz and prime minister's son Abdul Qadir Gilani was established in full public glare on the TV screen when they thought they were talking in camera.
There is no comparison between Luqman: a cheap and sold out media person and Hassan Nisar to be sitting on a high moral pedestal. Hassan's terse postures and uncharitable, scathing and rather brutal critique of the stinking political and socio-economic system, the rapacious violation of the constitution and laws, the bad governance and rampant plunder by powerful lobbies and individuals, earned him the respect and aplomb of   the watchers of his TV program.
And now he seems to be half way through an abyss that eliminates the infinite difference of between him and the notorious lot of media in regard to an upright conduct. It is a steep downfall that cannot be rescaled upward by tons of explanations on the part of him or his zealous fans.
Human suffer from temptations for worldly pleasures and enticements and Hassan Nisar is no exception. But what is intriguing or painful is that he was an icon among the journalists for his fiery exhortations against the evil forces. A drastic downgrading from that sublime stature is not only mind boggling but squarely distressing for his admirers. How is he going to cope with this sordid turn of events is too hard a feat to be conjectured correctly?

[Pak-Media] Mehar Bukhari should resign immediately

Dear all

Mehar Bukhari added her name in the sting operation against the superior judiciary and the CJP in that special interview of Malik Riaz on Dunya TV. People around the globe with interest in Pakistani politics watched her doing everything to please the property tycoon through her conversation supported by body language during 'off-the-air' intervals. She tried her best to get Malik Riaz's attention and 'blessings'. He responded with 'fatherly' attitude. To please her, he promised to give her exclusive one-to-one interview in future. The whole 'episode' reminded me of slave mental mind-set our society suffers from.

Despite her explanation the next day on her talk show, she cannot hide the factual visuals seen by millions a day earlier. The question is why did she want to have another one-to-one interview? Didn't she do enough 'Khush-Amadi' in those two hours that she wanted more hours? What else she could have done that she didn't do in that interview?

Whether she likes it or not, the paradoxical approach in 'on the air' and 'off the air' visuals brought her down in the eyes of the public. Khwaja Asif tried to save her integrity by calling her a 'collateral damage'. It is not as simple as that. The only way she can distance herself from the sting operation and be counted as 'collateral damage' is to resigns from Dunya TV as her colleague Nasim Zahar did. That is the only honourable way out otherwise showing selected clips of her conversations and trying to explain her position is like cleaning her greasy hands with water instead of turpentine. Moreover it can cast a shadow on her husband Kashif Abbasi's integrity, who is known to be an upright anchor person.

Finally, if one removes the clip in which Mubashar Lucman received a call from PM's son and handed over the telephone in a disgraceful manner to Riaz Malik, he acted and sounded more upright than Meher Bukhari during those crucial 'off the air' time.
