KASHMIRIS REGARD INDIA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY AS BLACKDAY IN THEIR HISTORY HABIB YOUSAFZAI SPOKESPERSON, KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE The day of August 15 is considered a Blackday in history by the citizens of the IDA: JK as they have been living under the slavery of the Indian Government for over six decades. The citizens of the IDA:JK have been mourning India's independence since the day it took occurred sixty four years ago. The Indian armed personnel have been deliberately killing Kashmiri citizens in numerous pogroms, genocides, and fake encounter killings almost immediately after receiving freedom on a platter in the late morning hours of August 15, 1947 from Britain. The will of the incumbents of the area is suppressed by the Indian Government, using various deceptive tactics. To date, the Indian army has killed more than 200,000 innocent Kashmiris. In view of the abhorrent atrocities taking place in Kashmir, people of all ages and walks of life, including women, children, and the elderly gathered to participate in the protest. The protest continued for two hours and protestors carried big banners displaying the message "Indian army out of Kashmir (IDA: JK)" for the support of humanitarian rights in Kashmir. Kashmiris issued a communiqué on the occasion saying that they want to convey a clear message to the world why they are protesting India's Independence Day. "We want to show the world that Kashmir was not a part of India but in reality the New Delhi administration was holding the territory by force and intimidation." The protestors chanted anti-Indian slogans and called on to the international community to stop the atrocities being committed against the people of Kashmir (IDA: JK). They further stressed, "The immediate withdrawal of all Indian forces from illegally occupied Kashmir, and to leave the Kashmiris to decide their fate freely through a plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations as should be reasonable for any nation who claims to be democratic." Explaining the current situation in Kashmir, the statement condemned the extra judicial and custodial killings of innocent Kashmiris in the occupied territories. An anonymous protester yelled the following, quoting Malcolm X: "You can't separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom." "I'm for truth, no matter who tells it. I'm for justice, no matter who it is for or against. I'm a human being, first and foremost, and as such I'm for whoever and whatever benefits humanity as a whole." "Truth is on the side of the oppressed." The Executive Members of Canadian Chapter Kashmir Diaspora, Dr Azrab Khan, Mohammad Aslam Qadri, Farooq Papa, Khawaja Rafiq, and Habib Yousafzai organized the protest, who in conclusion called on the international community to come forward and ask India affirmatively to let the Kashmiris decide their future freely by themselves; with the right of self-determination by the people of Kashmir.
Kashmiris protested against India's illegal occupation of the Internationally Disputed Areas of Jammu and Kashmir (IDA: JK), which has been occupied since 15th August, 1947. This protest was in the heart of Downtown Toronto, more specifically in front of Eaton Square on the eve of India's Independence Day. The IDA: JK were handed over by the British India Empire (formerly known as East India Company) to the 'unelected' leadership of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru. Coinciding with the protest was a parade organized by the Indian embassy to celebrate the 'Independence day' of the so-called largest democracy of the world.
"How can you thank a man for giving you what's already yours? How then can you thank him for giving you only part of what is yours? You get your freedom by letting your enemy know that you'll do anything to get it. Then you'll get it. It's the only way you'll get it."
