Assalam-o-alaikum; Hope you all had a spiritual and fulfilling jumatulwidaa
There are two main types of reporting in news media. One is analytical in the form of articles based on general observation, news reports and the writer's own opinion. The other form of reporting is a news story and has its basis in objective facts. Dr Shahid Qureshi' piece on MQM can be clearly categorised as the latter. Being a senior journalist Dr sahib must be aware that he should have access to necessary proofs and evidences before such serious information is published or circulated. Conversely, it may construe to serious case of defamation. If MQM does not agree with the serious allegations raised by Dr Qureshi, (which it clearly does not evident by the beautiful Quranic verses that were just referred to) the party leadership must immediately write to Dr Qureshi to produce the relevant evidence. In case of his failure to do so, the matter should be taken to an appropriate legal forum. Even a poor journalist like myself resorted to legal remedy to a certain extent (despite my scarce resources) when an act of libel was committed against me at MQM secretariat London by a fellow journalist. Alhamdolillah I don't have any grievances today and the disturbing episode instead motivated me positively into further academic achievements. Apart from doing an advanced degree in law I can now work as a solicitor in UK's courts.
MQM is the third largest political party in Pakistan and is surely far more resourceful than I was. Why does not MQM opt for an appropriate legal discourse over such serious and damaging allegations? Referring to Quranic verses is not enough if the allegations are raised against a person maliciously. There are other holy verses as well, saying that those who do not raise their voice against zulm are the biggest zalims themselves.
I urge Dr Qureshi to kindly substantiate his news report with necessary evidence. In case he chooses not to, I humbly extend my hand to assist MQM with their defamation claim absolutely free of charge. MQM will just have to arrange for the Barristers' fees. This will not only help discourage the alleged propaganda against MQM but will also denounce and discourage yellow journalism prevalent in Pakistani journalists community.
With Best regards

pathetic lie. all people out there beware that the woman named afshan bangash is not a solicitor. this has been confirmed by the solicitors regulatory authority uk. so any person dealing with her would be responsible for himself/herself.
