Musharraf can never be pardoned for his crimes: Dr Chohan
LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League (N) Punjab Assembly legislator Dr
Ashraf Chohan has said that comparing the "dictatorial era" of Pervez
Musharraf with any democratic form of governance is unjust and unfair
to the democratic forces with a long history for the restoration of
democracy in Pakistan.
Dr Chohan reacted after Lord Nazir Ahmed said that Pervez Musharraf's
era was better than the current government in the sense that there was
less corruption and harassment at the Pakistani airports and overseas
Pakistanis faced no or less hassle. Lord Ahmed said this at a recent
community event where he spoke about the complaints often heard from
the overseas Pakistan as to how they were forced to bribe the police
at Pakistani airports.
Dr Chohan said that Musharraf, now living in exile, committed crimes
against Pakistani nation and he is single-handedly the person
responsible for throwing Pakistani to the wolves, just in order to
extend his illegal rule.
"His biggest crime is that he sold out Pakistan's national interest to
Pakistan's enemies, suppressed democratic forces and attacked the
independent judiciary in the most ruthless manner. He destroyed
Pakistani institutions and left a huge stockpile of mess in his wake
and Pakistani nation continues to pay the price for his crimes,"
Chohan said in a statement on Saturday.
The MP from Gujranwala said that recently it has been seen that some
politicians have issued statements in favour of Musharraf and it
smacked of conspiracy to derail the democratic process.
He said it was true that corruption at all levels had gone up under
the nose of the Federal government and the government was not
listening to the demands of the common man but yet the government must
be kept in check and criticised for reform and betterment through and
within the democratic framework.
"Pakistan doesn't afford another military adventure and there should
be no place left in Pakistan polity for any former or current
dictator. The dictator on the run should be brought to justice in
Pakistan, he should not be appeased by anyone," he demanded.
