UN asks for full disclosure on killing

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

Oslo, May 5: UN human rights chief Navi Pillay Thursday called for "a full disclosure of the accurate facts" to determine the legality of the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
"I'm still for a full disclosure of the accurate facts," Pillay told reporters in Oslo. "I think it's not just my office but anybody is entitled to know exactly what happened," she added.
Pillay's declarations come a day after US Attorney General Eric Holder told a Senate hearing the raid during which bin Laden was killed "was lawful and consistent with our values."

"The United Nations condemns terrorism but it also has basic rules of how counter-terrorism activity has to be carried out. It has to be in compliance with international law," she said.

"For instance, you're not allowed to commit torture or extra-judicial killings," she explained.

The White House's changing story over the attack has raised doubts about US assurances that the US special operations forces sent to bin Laden's lair in the Pakistani garrison town of Abbottabad were prepared to take him alive.

"If he had surrendered, I think - attempted to surrender - I think we should, obviously, have accepted that," Holder told the Senate committee.

Offer funeral prayers for Osama Bin Laden (Shaheed): Geelani to people

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, May 5: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Thursday urged people including Imams and Ulema to offer funeral prayers in absentia for Osama bin Laden (Shaheed) after the Friday prayers.

He also appealed the people to pray for "freedom of all suppressed nations including Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan."

To prevent Geelani from leading the prayers at Batamaloo here, the authorities have placed the veteran leader under house arrest.

In a statement, Geelani said bin Laden (Shaheed) was not just a person. "But he represented a thinking which opposed foreign occupational forces. His heart bore the pain of the entire Muslim Ummah (community) and he gave up his life of comfort to fight for their cause. It is our moral and religious duty to pray for peace to his soul," Geelani said.

"The western countries should realize that suppression inflicted upon the Muslims in their respective lands will trigger resistance time and again," Geelani said.

A Hurriyat (G) spokesman said Geelani was scheduled to lead the funeral prayers at Batamaloo here on Friday. "However, since today morning Geelani Sahib has been placed under house arrest," he said.

The spokesman said after the conglomerate filed a writ petition in the High Court against Geelani's continuous house arrest a few days ago, police had lifted restrictions around the ailing leader's house. "But today again, the police have confined Geelani Sahib to his home. These suppressive tactics reflect that the Government is frustrated over the popularity of Geelani Sahib and want to establish silence of graveyard in the state," the spokesman said.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The death of Osama bin Laden is related to an investigation of a teacher at Clear Brook High School. The teacher is accused of making a racially insensitive comment to a student in front of the entire class.

A Friendswood mom says she was offended by what her daughter says happened Monday in ninth grade algebra.

She said, "The teacher told the student that 'I bet you're grieving.' And she basically looked at him and said what are you talking about? And he said I heard about your uncle's death and she said wow, because she understood that he was referring about Osama bin Laden being killed and was racially profiling her."

The remark was made to a classmate, an American-born girl of Muslim faith. It happened at Clear Brook High School in the Clear Creek Independent School District. The mom wanted to speak out about the incident but wanted us to protect her identity, saying she doesn't want any retaliation against her daughter or the girl who experienced the inappropriate comment.

The mother said, "The student ended up crying over what was said to her by the teacher and the teacher asked her why she was crying and another student said it was because of what you said earlier. And his response was, oh, OK, and just kind of smirked and giggled and walked away."

The Clear Creek school district was quick to respond, confirming what was said and issuing a prepared statement.

"In the Clear Creek Independent School District, we believe diversity strengthens our community and seek opportunities to celebrate the different cultures within our schools and neighborhoods. The sentiments allegedly shared by this teacher are not reflective of the staff at Clear Brook High School or anyone within the Clear Creek Independent School District. In accordance with CCISD policy, the teacher has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a personnel investigation.

The student did the right thing and immediately notified an adult regarding the teachers' comments. The principal at Clear Brook High School notified the child's parents and has been in communication with the family." -Elaina Polsen, Director of Public Information, Clear Creek Independent School District

The Islamic Society of Greater Houston agrees with the action, saying they believe the incident is isolated. The group does not call for any further response.

"A lot of people are ignorant in the world, and so you just have to ignore them," suggested Dr. Aziz Siddiqui with the Islamic Society of Greater Houston.

Meanwhile, the Friendswood mom read a text she received from the girl.

She read, "Make it a lesson learned about how the world is going through stuff and he needs to watch what he says and so do others because Osama does not represent the whole Muslim faith."

The mom says that the girl remains in class and she is grateful that her classmates stuck up for her.

This bigot needs to be fired. A bigot that thinks it's ok to harass a child is not smart enough to be a teacher!

A previously undisclosed, classified stealth helicopter apparently was
part of the U.S. task force that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan on May 1.
The exact type of helicopter is unknown but it appears to be a highly
modified version of an H-60 Blackhawk. Photos disseminated via the European
PressPhoto agency and attributed to an anonymous stringer show that the
helicopter's tail features stealth-configured shapes on the boom and the tail
rotor hub fairings, swept stabilizers and a "dishpan" cover over a
five-or-six-blade tail rotor. It has a silver-loaded infrared suppression finish
similar to that seen on V-22s.
The aircraft was damaged during the mission and abandoned. The mission
team destroyed most of the airframe but its tail section landed outside the
wall of the target compound and escaped demolition.
Stealth helicopter technology is not new and was applied extensively to
the Boeing/Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche, cancelled in 2004. Compared with
fixed-wing stealth, more emphasis is usually placed on noise and infrared
signatures.
Noise can be reduced and made less conspicuous by adding blades to the
main and tail rotors. It can also be reduced by aerodynamic modifications and
flight control changes that make it possible to reduce rotor rpm,
particularly in forward flight below maximum speed. Infrared reduction measures are
crucial - the Comanche had an elaborate system of exhaust ducts and
fresh-air ejectors in its tailboom.
Radar cross-section (RCS) reduction measures include flattened and canted
body sides, making landing gear and other features retractable, and adding
fairings over the rotor hubs. It usually is not possible to achieve the
same - you can't make a helo as radar-stealthy as a fixed-wing airplane, but
helicopters generally operate at low altitude in ground clutter. Reducing
RCS also makes jamming more effective, whether from the aircraft itself or
from a standoff jammer.
