Minister asks Govt to review oil price hike
Islamabad: March 4
Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination, Balochistan Dr. Ruquiya Saeed Hashmi has asked the government to examine the raise in oil prices again as it has started hurting millions of families across the country.
Prices of all commodities have started upward journey which will push millions more below poverty line.
Rocketing inflation has already pushed majority in Pakistan to compromise on necessities and now they have been pushed to the brink that can result in mass unrest, she warned.
The Minister said that government should have scarified some of its profit temporarily instead of burdening masses.
Talking to Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President of the Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW), she said that government can make up to the vitality in international oil prices by introducing some fiscal discipline.
Taxation system can be improved to boost revenue collection, she added.
People continue to face consequences of objectionable policies of the government which is facing a great image problem, Hashmi added.
At the occasion, Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that government should broaden tax net, introduce equitable taxation and reduce expanses to counter monthly loss of Rs 5 billion due to oil prices.
The recent decision will damage economy that will result in massive unemployment.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that billions could be saved by appointing proper people as heads of state-run corporations.
He said that the government is getting unpopular as it has failed to provide any relief to the masses.
