I fully endorse Mr Aamir Butt's observations. While I agree with him, the fact is that character and integrity of the politicians and public awareness and empowerment are fundamental for the success of democracy. PAKISTANI POLITICS is money driven, family driven, ethnic and "Baradari"driven. Our politicians lack character and integrity. Except for Bhutto's, Sharif's, Chaudri's, Bacha's and Hoti's, Mengal's, Bughti's and Nawab offsprings, and Sardars and their off springs, a commoner even with the highest credentials has no place in Pakistani politics. In the money and family driven Pakistani politics, even Imran Khan despite his high integrity and commitment will not succeed, because the people vote for money. The highest bidder gets the vote.
"If Pakistan was allowed to develop democracy!", is every sane and educated Pakistani's wish. But elections are one hundred percent rigged, ballot boxes in the past were stuffed with bogus votes, or smuggled away. Many politicians send goonda's and gunmen to intimidate the voters, especially women. We want Imran Khan to succeed, but he must reorganize to face the above challenges.
Democracy cannot descend from heaven. If the establishment riggs the elections, if the police and gunmen embark on intimidation, and beatings, the outcome cannot be called democratic. Please suggest ways and means for honest democracy and above board elections.
