ISLAMABAD: April 30: Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists staged a sit-in outside Daily Jinnah against illegal, immoral and labors laws violation for confinement of 35 journalists' staff on the draconian order of its Chief Editor Khushnood Ali Khan within premises of its building in Sitara Market, Friday night.
The angry journalists under the leadership of RIUJ and National Press Club gathered outside the building of daily when the abducted journalists sought help against unlawful confinement. Over 100 journalists on the emergent call of RIUJ rushed to the daily and stage sit-in and chanted slogans against illegal detention portraying middle ages culture of slavery mentality by the Chief Editor of the daily..
The abducted Journalists from the windows of building yelled and told the fellow protestors that they have been locked in the News Room. They were punished by the so called journalist and TV Anchor Khushnood Ali Khan when they just demanded to pay them their last couple of months salary.
RIUJ President Tahir Rathore in his address outside the Daily Jinnah Building strongly castigated Khushnood Ali Khan act and demanded immediate release of abducted Journalists, other staff members and to pay them within a day the salary including dues of the previous months. .
He said that newspapers employees were demanding salaries for the last three days but the Dictator Editor Khushnood has refused to pay the same. The workers after refusal of salary payment observed token strike.
Mr. Rathore demanded that if salaries were not paid and anti-law activities were not stopped the RIUJ will hold protest outside the Parliament House. President National Press Club Muhammad Afzal Butt strongly condemned the act of Khushnood Ali Khan and the owner of Newspaper Malik Riaz for this harsh, inhuman, and draconian act.
He said that Khushnood Ali Khan has also tortured and victimized female journalists and staff in his newspapers. He said after harassing Senior Journalists Babra Rizvi was sacked along with her other female colleagues, which is unfortunate and falls under the women harassment act.
General Secretary RIUJ, Bilal Thaheem while addressing the journalists gathering said that it is unfortunate and regrettable that most of the lower staff in the newspapers is even getting less than Rs7000 salary per month. He said unfortunately the greater part of the salary of these staff deducted as fine by the editor.
Local APNEC Chairman Qurban Satti said the Khushnood Ali is a black spot on the face of Daily Jinnah. He said that newspapers workers discharged their duties day and night with dedication but in return they receive abusive language, starvation and depression.
He called the property tycoon of the twin cities of Rawalpindi Islamabad to refrain from illegal, cruel, heartless and callous acts towards the newspapers employees who are just demanding their salaries.
The cowardice Khushnood whose Boss Malik Riaz daily serve food to poor in millions, open the lock of the news room. It is worth mentioning that some of the reporting and other staff is even getting monthly salary of Rs 3000 , Whereas so called PTV Anchor is charging 1000 to 1400 from each employee in the head of fine on no reasons.
Later President RIUJ Tahir Rathore, President NPC Afzal Butt, RIUJ General Secretary Bilal Thaheem, Local APNEC Qurban Satti, former RIUJ President Shehryar Khan and scores of demonstrator went to Aabpara Police Station and lodged written complaint duly singed by the confined staff of Daily Jinnah.
All the Journalists and newspapers, electronic media employees are bound to assemble at 5 p.m. outside parliament building on Monday May 2, 2011, to demonstrate for the wages and against inhuman treatment of Khushnood Ali Khan.
