GHOUS BUX MAHAR DIRECTS FOR RESULT ORIENTED PRIVATISATION

Mr. Ghous Bux Khan Mahar Federal Minister for Privatisation has asked the Privatisation Commission (PC) officials to expedite the Privatisation Program in accordance with the Privatisation law and directed for result-oriented efforts in a fair, open and transparent manner to get optimal production from State Owned Entities (SoEs) by associating private sector through a competitive process.
In an introductory meeting here today with the Secretary Privatisation Mr. Shahid Hussain Raja, who took charge of the office of Federal Secretary Ministry of Privatisation, the Minister said that there was a need to remove the misconception among the stakeholders regarding the privatisation process, which were required to be removed through interpersonal forums and exchange of views through dialogue with the respective quarters.
Mr. Ghous Bux Khan Mahar expressed that by associating the Private Sector through Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, the value addition of our national assets, expansion in the existing entities through fresh investment, getting results in accordance with the installed capacity and creating fresh jobs opportunities could be ensured.
The Minister further stated that the fear of retrenchment among the workers of the entities on Privatisation agenda needed to be removed and their interests must be safeguarded through the respective agreements.
Later, Mr. Shahid Hussain Raja Secretary Privatisation was briefed by PC officials in a separate meeting regarding the privatisation policy, program, process, law and the functioning of PC and it was informed that since 1991 to 2009 the sale proceeds worth Rs. 476 billion were realized through the privatisation of 167 units while 16 units were yet to reach the financial close. The privatisation was a noble cause as it brought up the private sector and provided industrial base to Pakistan, said Mr. Shahid Hussain Raja while addressing the officers of the Privatisation Division and the Privatisation Commission.
