Offer funeral prayers for Osama Bin Laden (Shaheed): Geelani to people
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, May 5: The Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Thursday urged people including Imams and Ulema to offer funeral prayers in absentia for Osama bin Laden (Shaheed) after the Friday prayers.
He also appealed the people to pray for "freedom of all suppressed nations including Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan."
To prevent Geelani from leading the prayers at Batamaloo here, the authorities have placed the veteran leader under house arrest.
In a statement, Geelani said bin Laden (Shaheed) was not just a person. "But he represented a thinking which opposed foreign occupational forces. His heart bore the pain of the entire Muslim Ummah (community) and he gave up his life of comfort to fight for their cause. It is our moral and religious duty to pray for peace to his soul," Geelani said.
"The western countries should realize that suppression inflicted upon the Muslims in their respective lands will trigger resistance time and again," Geelani said.
A Hurriyat (G) spokesman said Geelani was scheduled to lead the funeral prayers at Batamaloo here on Friday. "However, since today morning Geelani Sahib has been placed under house arrest," he said.
The spokesman said after the conglomerate filed a writ petition in the High Court against Geelani's continuous house arrest a few days ago, police had lifted restrictions around the ailing leader's house. "But today again, the police have confined Geelani Sahib to his home. These suppressive tactics reflect that the Government is frustrated over the popularity of Geelani Sahib and want to establish silence of graveyard in the state," the spokesman said.
