[Pak-Media] Stale PIA, Rotten People to Fly With

Why do we not get ourselves ever to praise our national flag carrier? Well... I've tried my level best. On my last flight I had a chance encounter with the former editor of Hamsafar who, in his 'propah' English (a little more English than the English), 'phraised' all things 'Phee Aai Yeah'. He talked against the 'gorah' who had come to fix PIA and said very proudly that he was 'khicked outh'. Well... To say the least, that 'gorah' happened to be a man with more than 45 years of experience in the airline business and was associated with the world's best airlines including Virgin. By kicking him out we kissed goodbye to the great future of a pagan airline which refuses to grow up or rather grows up to be a refuse. The 'gorah' happened to become a very good friend of mine after he was kicked out and then I knew here was another victim of politics.
The fault does not lie in PIA and its people not willing to admit they can't grow. The fault lies in us that we have been accepting and allowing them to squander our money for their own fun and having the last laugh always at our cost. We are the promoters of our own victimisation and have made the entire nation a butt of joke with what PIA means to us both inland and oversees.
What exactly is the point I am trying to drive? You may ask...
Nepotism, lies, indifference, false sense of pride and dishonesty are rich ingredients of the staff at all levels. I arrived at Islamabad airport well in time for my 4:45pm flight on Monday 23rd May 2011 with my wife and our seat was confirmed booked on 28 April well in advance. The girl at the counter took her own sweet time and refused us entry 30 minutes before the flight saying flight closed. I tried to reason and the supervisor said aloud not to let us in. In this argument a good 15 minutes were wasted and then she very conveniently wrote a wrong time (16:32) and asked me to speak to the supervisor who was smiling all along as if to establish a clear victory on her face for winning the argument.
To cut it short, the supervisor then made a false statement twice saying you people have a habit of coming late and trying to make a fuss. I told her clearly she can be caught for defamation for making a false statement and she reiterated her words saying them with the famous PIA smile of hospitality, "Sir, you may go ahead and do whatever you want to..." There goes PIA, our national pride and there goes our vanity down the institutional drain.
Within minutes some 'chance passengers' were able to get our seats while we looked on in desperation. We paid cancellations while PIA earned more revenue and the chance passengers earned confirmed seats.
Whosoever is reading this will know well why we can't be able to praise our national flag carrier for whatever good it can ever do to us. Because though we do call it the pride of the nation, we as a nation can never get used to flying with an air of false pride. A food for thought.
