Punjab laptop plan lauded
Farmers' education plan demanded
Computers can transform lives of needy children
Islamabad: Dec 14--- Mian Shahid on Wednesday termed laptop plan of the
Punjab government a revolutionary step in the right direction that can put
the country on the road to progress.
Other provinces should also undertake such programmes to equip the new
generation with modern technology and knowledge, he said.
Provision of free laptops to deserving students who cannot buy this
expensive tool amounts to providing great opportunity to the neglected
sections of society, said Mian Shahid, CEO of Saudi Pak Insurance Company.
He said that other provinces should also boost measures to spread IT
literacy, as Internet is the best and most convenient source of
information as compare to the other sources.
Provision of computers to disadvantaged children is a noble charitable
endeavour which will improve their capacitance and experience besides
providing them opportunities for the future
Private sector, charity and non-profit organisations should also launch
programmes like "Computer for Success," to support underprivileged
students which will ultimately benefit the whole society, said Mian
Shahid.
A computer allows the child to connect with a broader world of
information, heightening his experience, he added.
Computers have the power to transform the lives of needy children, he said
adding that business community is satisfied with the arrangements of
Punjab government which has ensured transparency and merit.
Mian Shahid said that CM Shahbaz Sharif should also launch an educational
programme for farmers to guide them through SMS in local languages; this
important sector also deserves to get benefits of modern technology.
He said that government can consider importing Indian laptops with all
essential features at 35 dollar per unit.
According to a World Bank study, increased broadband penetration
contributes towards the growth in the GDP therefore this sector should be
exempted from all taxes, he demanded.
