MoU signing Govt of Punjab and ILO- End Discrimination against Women

Please note that the Department of Labour Punjab and ILO are going to sign a MOU to mainstream Gender into Policies and Programmes.

At the event, media colleagues can interview the Secretary and the Country Director ILO.

On 20th Jan, media will accompany the ILO team to the Gender Units from 0930 to 1100 and interview the woman labour inspector and other staff. This will be an opportune time to highlight the achievements of the Gender Unit and perhaps discuss some of the initiatives the GU has planned for year 2012; Gender Audit, labour law review, trainings etc

Here you can get the donor perspective from the CIDA delegation representatives and ensure their support to gender equality in Pakistan.

20 Jan- at 0930 am  Visit to Gender Units- Industrial Relations Institute, Sector B-2, Near Rescue 1122, Township

20 Jan- at 1145 am Visit to Pakistan Ready Made Garments Teaching Training Institute, 71 L, Gulberg 3, Lahore

where women are being trained as machine operators and supervisors under GE4DE project. Some of the passouts have already been employed at Sapphire. In the visit, these trainees and the employees of Sapphire (passouts of the ILO project) can be interviewed. This will make a great feature as the skills training project has received successful employment rates. It is for the first time, women are being trained in supervisory skills and not just the lower end of the production belt. The project has not only broken stereotypes that confines women to low skilled jobs and occupations in Textile Sector but also created strong industry linkages for sustainable guaranteed employement . The visit is planned from 1145 to 1300.
