Guardians of public morality not discharging duties
Obscene programmes, ads should not be tolerated in the name of entertainment

The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said guardians of public morality are not discharging their duties to keep the society clean and positive.
Certain elements are flouting Islamic values openly which is destroying the moral fabric of society, it said.
It was difficult to find anything indecent in print and electronic media in 1990s; now it is hard to spot anything which isn't against our values, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
Singers, dancers and models are being painted as heroes which is putting youth on the path of moral destruction, he observed.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that propagation of immorality is against the teachings of Islam but media has been focusing it while the watchdogs will only take any action if the interests of elite are threatened.
Indian TV is getting positive while Pakistani channels have been leading the nation to the path of devastation, he said.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said love affairs, cheating spouse and divorces are being shown as part of normal life which will never infuse positive attitude among spectators.
Misleading programmes glorifying crimes, obscenity, objectionable language, hurting marital harmony, sedition, violence, social inequality shows that making money has become only objective for production houses.
Offensive and vulgar programmes and advertisements should not be tolerated in the name of entertainment, he said. Those who are playing with the fire will have to face the consequences sooner or later, he warned.
