Distribution of wealth can minimise poverty
Islamabad: [March 04]
The Pakistan Economy Watch (PEW) on Sunday said economic revival can become a reality if serious steps are taken to ensure protection of the human rights of the masses.
Majority continue to suffer from crisis of economic opportunities that is grave threat, it said.
Unplanned response to the crisis, law and order, food and fuel prices are far from satisfactory, said Dr. Murtaza Mughal, President PEW.
Talking to Abdullah Malik, Advisor to Governor Punjab on Legal and Human Rights, he said that concrete actions based on recommendations of broad-based national debate has become imperative.
He said that current difficulties offer alternative approaches and solutions that need to be explored.
Dr. Murtaza Mughal said that with the influence of the champions of human rights and the disparities are increasing side-by-side, which proves that something is wrong.
Abdullah Malik said law and order, terrorism, market regulation, and protection of public interests have become the subject of intense debate in Pakistan.
He said that redistribution of wealth through state intervention can minimise impoverishment.
State should use all resources to fulfil economic, social and cultural rights of the masses, he added.
Human rights obligations have yet to receive adequate attention in policies, said Abdullah Malik.
