World Refugee Day 2012

Please join UNHCR in marking World Refugee Day tomorrow, June 20^th, at 10am at the Serena hotel in Islamabad. The chief guest is the Honorable Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Engineer Shaukat Ullah Khan. Other speakers will include a former refugee who lived in Pakistan for 28 years before returning home. He will share his experiences on settling back in Afghanistan.

 

Pakistan is home to one of the longest-running refugee situations in the world. Since the early 1980's, the country has hosted millions of Afghan refugees. Though more than five million have returned home since 2002, 1.7 million Afghan refugees continue to reside in Pakistan.
