Earth Day 2011 'A Billion Acts of Green'
Clean up your City!
Friday, April 22nd, 2011: WWF - Pakistan in collaboration with U.S.
Embassy celebrated Earth Day 2011 'Clean Up Your City' at the Trail
5, Dara Jangla, Islamabad. More than 50 Students from Government schools
picked up trash and rehabilitated tree along the Trail 5.
Earth Day is observed on 22nd April every year. The Theme for this is A
Billion Acts of Green®: Personal, organisational and corporate pledges
to live and act sustainably. It is an ideal opportunity for individuals,
corporations and governments to join together and create a global green
economy.
WWF - Pakistan organised 'Clean up your City' activity at Trail 5,
Daran Jungla on April 22, from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Students from
government schools, stakeholders, media, representatives from U.S.
Embassy, Ministry of Environment, Capital Development Authority (CDA)
and WWF - Pakistan were given waste collection bags and gloves to clean
up the site. The students cleaned the area of Trail 5 with the
dignitaries as part of Billion Acts of Green campaign.
The Chief Guest Mr. Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, Chairman Capital Development
Authority, Mr. Mujtaba Hussain, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of
Environment, Dr. Marilyn Wyatt, U.S. Embassy along with students
participated in the tree rehabilitation and cleanup activities.
WWF - Pakistan has been celebrating Earth Day formally since almost
four years. Earth Day 2011 celebrations on April 22 are about raising
awareness on Earth's environment and appreciation of precious natural
resources that have served our Planet and us.
