In order to monitor Pakistan's progress towards the MDGs , ActionAid with the financial assistance of AusAID organized a series of people's consultations which included 6 district level consultations —in Bhakkar, Muzaffargarh, Multan, Sukkur, Shahdadkot and Sanghar- and two provincial consultations –in Karachi (Sindh) and Lahore (Punjab).
Toward the completion of this process, ActionAid and AusAID are organizing a National Conference in Islamabad on 21st and 22nd March which will be attended by civil society alliances and grass-root communities from the six districts, students, academia, social activists and national CSOs.
Following are the basic objectives of this national conference :
· Creating a space for communities and civil society organizations to critically monitor and influence the government interest regarding MDGs.
· Sensitizing civil society to play its proactive role in realization of MDGs.
· Analyzing strengths and weakness of Government initiatives to achieve MDGs.
· Developing civil society's recommendations for the Government to effectively achieve MDGs
